Woman Hospitalized After Drinking Mercury-Contaminated Tea by Mistake
A 45-year-old woman in Naro-Fominsk was rushed to hospital after drinking tea contaminated with mercury. The alarming incident unfolded on February 8 when a child accidentally broke a mercury thermometer in her home. Unaware of the danger, the woman consumed the liquid, which contained the toxic metal.
The accident took place in an apartment on Marshal Zhukov Street. A child playing indoors knocked over a mercury thermometer, spilling its contents. Instead of cleaning it up safely, the mercury was poured into a cup of tea.
The woman drank the tea without realising what had happened. Soon after, she began experiencing symptoms linked to mercury exposure. Emergency services were called, and she was quickly taken to a nearby medical facility.
Doctors immediately started detoxification procedures. Her condition has since been described as moderate, with no further updates on her recovery.
The incident highlights the risks of improper handling of mercury. The woman remains under medical supervision while receiving treatment. Authorities have not released further details about the case.
