Woman, 70, Dies After Universal Orlando Roller Coaster Ride Sparks Family’s Safety Questions
A 70-year-old woman from California died after riding a roller coaster at Universal Orlando last November. Ma de la Luz Mejia Rosas suffered a fatal aneurysm shortly after boarding Revenge of the Mummy on 25 November 2025. Her family only learned the full details weeks later, following an official autopsy report.
Rosas, who had a known fear of confined spaces and pre-existing heart conditions, collapsed after the ride. She was rushed to an Orlando hospital but passed away on 9 December 2025. The medical examiner later confirmed the cause of death as a ruptured aneurysm, with no signs of trauma.
Her family, unaware of the full extent of her health issues until reviewing hospital and ancestry records, sought answers. They hired attorney Ben Crump to investigate the ride’s safety procedures, maintenance history, and operational protocols. On 20 January 2026, the Orange County Medical Examiner released the final report, including toxicology results that confirmed her heart condition and medication use.
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services was formally notified of Rosas’ death on 15 January 2026. The family continues to await further details about the incident.
The autopsy confirmed that Rosas’ death resulted from a natural medical event, not ride-related injuries. Her family now focuses on understanding whether her health risks were properly assessed before boarding. Universal Orlando has not yet issued a public statement regarding the case.
