Swiss politician Alfred Heer's sudden death ruled natural by investigators

Alfred Heer, a Swiss politician and member of the SVP Nationalrat, died suddenly in Zurich last September. Police responded to an emergency at his home late on a Thursday evening. Authorities have now closed the investigation into his death.

Heer had a long political career in Zurich, starting in the city legislature from 1994 to 1998. He later served in the Kantonsrat from 1995 to 2008 before leading the SVP's cantonal branch between 2009 and 2016. His role as a Nationalrat continued until his unexpected heart failure at 62.

The cause of death was acute heart failure. Heer had suffered from a severe heart condition for some time. Investigators found no signs of foul play, leading to the case being officially closed.

The closure of the investigation confirms that Heer's death was due to natural causes. His political work in Zurich and at the national level spanned decades. The final report rules out any suspicious circumstances surrounding his passing.
