Singapore urges smart healthcare choices during Chinese New Year rush
Singapore's Ministry of Health (MOH) has reminded residents to use emergency services wisely during the Chinese New Year holiday. With over 1,000 GP clinics staying open from February 16 to 18, officials are urging the public to choose the right medical facility for their needs. The call aims to prevent unnecessary strain on emergency hotlines and hospitals.
The MOH has stressed that minor illnesses should be treated at GP or 24-hour clinics. For those unsure where to go, the NurseFirst helpline (6262 6262) operates daily from 8am to 11pm. The service helps direct patients to the most suitable care option.
Serious or life-threatening cases must still go to hospital Accident & Emergency (A&E) departments. To reduce waiting times, the ministry advises booking appointments before visiting a GP clinic. A full list of 1,095 clinics, including their opening hours and locations, is available on the GPGoWhere website.
The public has also been asked to avoid calling the 995 emergency hotline for non-critical issues. This ensures faster response times for genuine emergencies during the holiday period.
The measures come as Singapore prepares for the Chinese New Year break. By guiding residents to appropriate care options, the MOH hopes to maintain efficient medical services. The NurseFirst helpline and GPGoWhere website remain key resources for those seeking advice.
