Man's 8-Daily Energy Drinks Trigger Stroke and Lasting Damage

A 54-year-old man suffered a stroke after drinking eight energy drinks every day. His habit led to dangerously high blood pressure, which doctors linked directly to excessive caffeine intake. Even years later, he still faces lasting health problems from the incident.

The man consumed eight energy drinks daily, each containing 160 milligrams of caffeine. This added up to 1,280 milligrams per day—three times the recommended safe limit. His blood pressure spiked as a result, reaching levels severe enough to trigger a stroke.

After hospital treatment, his blood pressure dropped. But once he started drinking energy drinks again, it rose to dangerous levels once more. The drinks also contained high amounts of glucose, which can harm blood vessels in ways similar to diabetes.

Taurine, another common ingredient in energy drinks, can make the problem worse. When combined with caffeine, it further raises blood pressure. Studies by the American College of Cardiology have shown that too much caffeine increases the risk of heart and blood vessel diseases.

Eight years after the stroke, the man still experiences numbness. His left hand, fingers, foot, and toes remain affected by lingering damage.

The case highlights the risks of excessive energy drink consumption. High caffeine and glucose levels can lead to severe health complications, including long-term damage. Doctors warn that such habits may cause irreversible harm to the heart and blood vessels.
