Klar2O's €4.5M Boost Tackles Microplastics in Drinking Water with Cutting-Edge Filters

Klar2O, a startup based in Bruchsal, has secured 4.5 million euros in a Series A funding round. The investment will help the company expand its innovative water filtration technology. This system targets microplastics, nanoplastics, and harmful 'forever chemicals' in drinking water—a growing global health concern.

Recent research has revealed alarming levels of plastic contamination in bottled water. Studies found an average of 240,000 plastic fragments per litre, with around 90% being nanoplastics smaller than one micrometer. These tiny particles can penetrate biological barriers and have been detected in human blood, urine, and organs, raising serious health questions.

Klar2O's patented Smart Surface Technology offers a solution by combining effective adsorption with minimal pressure loss. The filters are regenerable and recyclable, making them both efficient and sustainable. Unlike traditional methods, this technology uses selective binding to remove contaminants while keeping energy consumption low.

The funding round was led by FMC Beteiligungs KG Bremen. Klar2O plans to use the capital to scale up production and push into international markets. The company aims to set a new standard for high-quality water filtration worldwide.

The investment will allow Klar2O to increase manufacturing of its advanced filters. With growing awareness of plastic pollution in drinking water, the technology could play a key role in addressing a long-standing health challenge. The company's focus on sustainability and efficiency positions it as a strong contender in the filtration industry.
