Two Canadian tennis players suffered severe cramping during first-round matches at the Australian Open. Marina Stakusic collapsed on court and withdrew, while Félix Auger-Aliassime also pulled out due to the same issue. The extreme conditions in Melbourne may have played a role in both incidents.

Stakusic was competing against Priscilla Hon when she suddenly collapsed. The 19-year-old described the pain as excruciating, unlike anything she had felt before. After struggling to stand, she was eventually wheeled off the court in a wheelchair.

Temperatures in Melbourne hovered just above 30°C (86°F) on Monday afternoon. Stakusic later suggested that heat or stress could have triggered her severe cramping. Meanwhile, Félix Auger-Aliassime also withdrew from his first-round match due to cramping. The Canadian, known for competing against top players like Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti, was unable to continue.

Both players were forced to abandon their matches due to medical issues. The incidents highlight the physical toll of competing in extreme heat. Officials have not yet confirmed whether additional measures will be taken for player safety.
