Free lecture on varicose veins reveals modern therapy breakthroughs

A free public lecture on varicose veins will be held at Solingen Hospital on Tuesday, November 4. Dr. Ulrich Jaschke, head of vascular and endovascular surgery, will lead the session from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the hospital's U2-level cafeteria. No registration is needed to attend.

The event, titled Understanding Varicose Veins: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment Options, will explain how the condition develops and progresses. Early warning signs include leg heaviness, itching, visible vein changes, and swelling. If untreated, varicose veins can lead to serious chronic venous disorders with severe complications.

Modern treatments now offer tailored solutions based on the severity and location of affected veins. German hospitals use radiofrequency ablation, laser therapy, venous glue (such as VenaSeal® or Venablock®), and foam sclerotherapy—the latter now recommended as first-line therapy for branch varicose veins. Compression therapy, sclerotherapy, surgery, and endovenous procedures will also be discussed.

Dr. Jaschke will highlight the importance of early diagnosis and timely intervention. Since varicose veins often run in families, he advises regular check-ups even after successful treatment.

The lecture aims to raise awareness about prevention and available therapies. Attendees will learn how to recognise symptoms early and explore the most effective treatment options. The session is open to anyone seeking information on managing varicose veins.
