Family of four hospitalized after carbon dioxide leak in Kazakhstan home

Three young children and their guardian were hospitalised after suffering carbon dioxide poisoning in Kosshy, Akmola Region. The incident has prompted emergency services to renew calls for stricter safety measures when using heating appliances at home.

The poisoning affected three children—aged one, five, and ten—as well as their mother, who acts as their guardian. She fell ill while transporting the children to hospital for treatment. All four were examined and later discharged in stable condition.

Firefighters responded to the scene shortly after the incident was reported. Authorities have since launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the carbon dioxide leak.

Emergency services have stressed the importance of following safety protocols for all heating devices. However, no recent updates to Kazakhstan's regulations on carbon dioxide prevention have been made public in the last five years.

The family has now recovered and returned home. The ongoing investigation aims to clarify how the carbon dioxide poisoning occurred. Officials continue to urge households to check heating systems regularly to prevent similar incidents.
