The man, a local resident, was rushed to the general hospital with a ruptured liver. Doctors operated immediately, just as celebrations for the new year began. His case was one of many over the festive period. Nearly 100 people were admitted to the regional toxicology center with acute poisoning. Some developed kidney and liver failure, while others suffered gastrointestinal bleeding or ulcerative gastritis. Between 1 and 9 January, Barnaul’s Emergency Hospital No. 2 treated over 1,100 patients. Many required urgent care due to alcohol-related complications. The man’s injury highlights the dangers of reckless behavior during celebrations. Hospitals in Barnaul reported a sharp rise in serious cases, with dozens needing intensive treatment for poisoning and organ damage.
