Heart failure at the wheel - 79-year-old dies in accident - Driver dies after medical emergency causes fiery crash in Allgäu

A 79-year-old man died in a car accident near Leutkirchen in the Allgäu region on Saturday morning. Emergency services responded after his vehicle crashed into a tree and caught fire just after 8:06 a.m. on the K8030 road between Herbarzhofen and Reichenhofen. The crash happened when the driver suffered a suspected medical emergency while behind the wheel. Police believe this may have led to the loss of control, causing the car to leave the road and collide with a tree. Two witnesses quickly pulled the unconscious man from the burning vehicle before flames engulfed it. Paramedics arrived shortly after and attempted resuscitation, but their efforts were unsuccessful. The car was completely destroyed by the fire. Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact nature of the medical incident, though cardiac arrest is being considered as a possible cause. The investigation into the accident remains ongoing. Police are examining whether a sudden health issue led to the fatal crash. The road was temporarily closed following the incident.
